About

In the summer of 1958, John Griffen started Goleta Building Materials dedicated primarily to the masonry trades. Originally it was located on Fairview Ave. property near the corner of Hollister Avenue. The site is now occupied by the Super 8 motel.

In 1963, Southern Pacific Milling, now Hanson, vacated their space on the airport and moved their ready mix concrete plant to its current location on Kellogg Ave.

When the concrete plant moved out, Goleta Building Materials promptly relocated to the airport site, and remains there today, over 50 years later.

In 1976, Mr. Griffen decided to retire and sold the business to Albert Rump, who operated it for 10 years along with his family, before deciding to sell the business to Ken Hall who had been operating a competing business since 1975 only 1/2 mile away.

Mr. Hall had started the first trailer hauled concrete operation in the area, and over his first 11 years in business Cart-Crete Supply Co. had grown to be a direct competitor to Goleta Building Materials. The Hall family continues to operate the merged businesses 30 years later and is passing the torch to the next generation of Halls.

Under the Hall ownership, Goleta Building Materials has grown to be one of the premier stone and hardscape material suppliers in the Santa Barbara / Goleta area.

Goleta Building Materials sells flagstone from all over the country. Along with more locally sourced pavers, sand and gravel materials, and the finest topsoil available.

Materials routinely arrive from Texas, Arkansas, Pennsylvania, Utah, and elsewhere. Much of the natural stone veneers available today come from India, Turkey, and China, through distribution centers located around the state.

We try to post pictures of new arrivals on the face-book page daily. Please watch for new materials.

Goleta Building Materials prides itself on giving friendly service from our experienced and knowledgeable staff backed up by reliable rapid delivery of in-stock materials with our fleet of newer dependable trucks.

It is not uncommon for us to follow a customer home with their order.
